Is Coconut Oil keeping you up at night?

Coconut

For many years, I thought I had the worst insomnia. Each night I would lie awake in my bed until 3 or 4 in the morning, and then be a zombie the whole next day. In 2015 I finally discovered what was keeping me up ALL night... it was COCONUT OIL!!! It really just kind of came to me one day. Coconut oil is a great source of lauric acid, has a gazillion health benefits, and it gives you tons of energy. (I don't love it for the skin however, but that's another article you can read HERE. ) I'd been using coconut oil in desserts, chips, smoothies and many food items, often later at night.

Finally after 8 years of thinking I had super bad hormonal issues, insomnia, and anxiety - I got to the root issue. Once I took out coconut oil at 6-7 pm I started sleeping like a baby. Sometimes I'll accidentally have it and it will keep me up for a while. If I have a little bit it won't affect me. But often times I spit it out, because I love to sleep. Now, I don't have it after 5-7 pm generally, but it may be different for you.

If you are having a hard time sleeping, I suggest cutting this out for 3-4 weeks to see if it will help you. I do love coconut oil during the day (it's great with scrambled eggs) but after 5 pm, I have to tone it down. May I suggest Macadamia nut oil to cook with at night. It has a high heat threshold and won't go rancid at high temperatures. I generally use butter or ghee (clarified butter) as well in desserts or to cook with. Thank you so much for this article and comments. I started having coconut oil every morning for the past 1-1/2 week and since I’ve been having difficulty sleeping. I blame it to hormones and called by PCP desperate asking for help. However, even after having melatonin 2 nights in a row, still unable to have a full night sleep. Last night I took melatonin and went to bed at 10pm and up at 2am, mind kept racing and suddenly coconut oil came into my mind. Immediately decided to research on it and found this info. Today it’ll be my first day w/o consuming coconut oil at all. I was mainly taking it during morning hours with coffee/tea. Let’s see how my night goes without coconut oil. I’m amazed with the benefits of this oil can give; however, it might not be for me 🤔😞

Thank you for this article. I use lots of coconut oil in my cooking and didn’t link it before to being awake at night!!

I knew it. I knew instantly what the cause was when about 3 times I took a BIG glob of coconut oil before bedtime or at 5PM and could NOT sleep. So now I will just try to eat coconut during the day. I remember in Kevin Tredeus book it said it would help you sleep. NOTTTT!!!!!!! Does the exact opposite. I am not surprised. I think coconut oil is magical.

Thank you for this information. I have found this to be a problem for me as well. I can eat coconut butter in the a.m. and I still can’t sleep much that night when I do. It makes me feel anxious too. My wife has the same experience as well.
